Computer is still being difficult. I haven't had the time and energy at the same time to fix it. Warren is adorable, and says "Obama" which is hilarious. He has also decided that "mama" means cell phone. Bullshit. I call bullshit. Eventually he'll figure it out, but come on! It took him forever to say Mama, and now he calls the cell phone mama, Cory is Uncle, Xtian is Dada and he has no name for me. Jerk. I'm going to remember this and punish him soundly when he's old enough to care.
Hectic life, lots of work, in a really good way. I get to go to the bay area this weekend and hang with my sis and my dear friend Jen. Totally needed. Warren will be accompanying me, which will be fun and also a pain in the ass. Which is really the perfect way to describe parenthood.
Hopefully back in the swing here. Stay tuned...

Still Alive
Oh holy god. I'm so exhausted I could cry. We're here, all moved in and about 90% unpacked, if you can believe it.
I started work today and so far so good. But you never can tell on the first day. All you do is fill out forms and read a million things. Sounds like a good company and a great team of folks. I'm working mostly with men and I'm kind of relieved about it. I just do better working with male dominated groups, I don't know why. Or maybe it's just that the few female dominated work places I've had were completely toxic and horrible. Who's to say?
In the process of moving, we lost two cats, found one, lost another one and found the other. So, we're still one cat down, and Xtian has to drive back to Oakland to get Vickie, but Fiddy seems to be settling in. I have no idea if Maggie will ever come back, and the fact that I'm kind of relieved she's gone is really hard to handle. I love her, but she's been so miserable for so long, I was at a loss for how to deal with her.
The place is better than I was expecting and having our own room back is soooo delightful. I need about 8 more lamps to handle the darkness in this place, but I'm pleased overall. And when I left this morning at 10 minutes till my work start time, and STILL made it on time? Well, I just had to do a happy dance in the parking lot. Oh and in further good news, I talked to my old boss, and his daughter lives 5 miles away from me. So, we actually have opportunities to get together. I really miss him, we had such good times together.
Oh and just to put a capper on it, my old work called me asking me some bullshit inane questions about a box of golf balls that were shipped last week. As though I could be bothered to give a crap? Why are you calling me? I don't work there anymore! I think I'll be dodging the calls from now on. What a bunch of crack asses.
Internet at my house is still in the works (how they managed to let the outside phone lines get CHEWED ON? I just don't understand), and until I know the internet situation at work, I'll be a little light on posting and reading my folks. Hope everyone is doing well, I'm just fantastic.

Huzzah!
Over the weekend we had a family party to attend for some cousins' birthdays. I was excited to go because my aunt and her kiddo would be there. I was dreading it because my gross uncle and irritating step grandmother would be there. But, I refused to let the former be outweighed by the latter.
As soon as we got there, I was irritated at my gross uncle. To be fair, he didn't really say anything to me, or do anything icky, I just don't really like him. So everything he does bothers me. And I'm a little horrified that my aunt and uncle are drinking again. (This is the aunt and uncle who only two/three years ago were in jail for having a meth lab in their home, and for abusing/neglecting their four children due to said meth lab). Yeah, you know what drug addicts need? A gateway drug like alcohol to allow them to exercise addictive behaviors. Whatever. At least the kids are old enough to tell folks when things get bad...I hope. But they kept it together while at the event, and really if anything gross uncle was trying to be less annoying. In fact, he never mentioned the whole "Yay boys! Booo girls!" bullshit he's been repeating for a year. So, that's a plus.
And Step Grandma has found something else to keep her worries occupied. The new worry is that my aunt will have another baby before she loses weight. This from a woman who could stand to drop 100 pounds, easily. But I guess it's easier to pick on your daughter than deal with your own problems. Sheesh, the more time I spend with her, the more I really appreciate my own mom. How do you deal with a mother who can't shut up and be happy for you? How do you not strangle the woman for constantly putting you down and doubting every decision you make?
How the hell is it any of her business if/when my aunt has another kid? Where do you even get off feeling the right to an opinion on someone else's reproductive plans?
Gah!
Anyhow. When my aunt and her kiddo, Evan (who's 6 weeks older than Warren and about 10 pounds heavier), arrived, we put both babies on the floor to check eachother out. Both babies had pacifiers in their respective mouths. So they sat for a minute, staring at each other. Then Warren reached over, pulled Evan's pacifier out, and tried to put it into his own mouth. When Warren failed that, since he still had his own pacifier, he reached over and handed Evan's paci to Xtian. Meanwhile, Evan just sat there like, "hey... that's mine. What the hell?" Too funny. It made me even more certain that Evan will be the Lenny to Warren's George. ("We're gonna have rabbits, right George? And live off the fat of the land!") But hopefully without mental handicaps and mercy killings.
And in a final note of great news, My sister and Kate (her girlfriend) will arrive in Oakland today! They're finally going to be here, permanently, and I'm so excited I can hardly sit still.

What?! I'm bored. Don't you judge me.
So, I'm bored, and to help illustrate how retarded the whole door/Crazy Lady thing is, I've created a little visual aid.
So, my friend Char works in the pink office suite. There are two doors leading out. Door A, which is right next to my boss' office, and Door B, which leads to a back hallway. Again, these doors are pretty much the same distance to anything you'd want to get to, so it's dealer's choice which one you use.
Crazy lady sent my friend Char and email informing him she didn't want Char to use Door A, and that he should be using Door B. For no other reason than... well she's crazy.
And to further show how crazy, Notice how close she is to Door A? Well, she won't use it. For any purpose. Even if she's needing something from my office suite. She'll take Door B and go around the long way just so she doesn't have to walk past my boss' office. That's a whole lot of effort, if you ask me.
Anyhow, I hope that helps.
Ok, so, now that I've killed a bunch of time with that... I HEART 3 day weekends! Especially since this is probably the first time Xtian and I have ever had a 3 day holiday weekend off together in... well at least two years. Oh, the delight! The sheer and utter fabulousness that was three whole days of hanging out together. And even better, was trading off who got up with the kid so the other could sleep in. On Saturday, I slept until... 9 am! Seriously, I mean it. NINE in the MORNING! Haven't done that since... Warren. And then Sunday, I got my happy ass out of bed and let Xtian sleep until...almost eleven. Woo! Party people.
Oh god. We're totally lame, aren't we?
So, can someone explain to me how folks in my ghetto ass neighborhood got their hands on the same fireworks that were being set off by the city? I'm not joking, these fireworks, which were being set off in the middle of the street, all over my neighborhood, were shooting up over 100 feet in the air, and exploding louder than you can imagine. Until midnight when the police finally started cruising the neighborhood. I mean, I'm pretty used to hearing gunshots, but these fireworks sounded like we were being mortared. How does one think that setting these things off, DIRECTLY ABOVE people's homes, is going to be a good idea? Oh yeah, the same people who think slinging dope is a pretty fine way to supplement their income.
Man, I can't wait to get the hell out of there.
Yeah, that's all I've got for now. Huzzah, and happy Monday.

A few annoyances.
Thought I'd provide an update on the whole "house on fire/insurance screwing us into the ground" thing. So, our landlords are awesome, and basically worked out a deal with us. Xtian fixes the damage and buys the material, and the problem goes away. But, the insurance company has decided to throw a collection agency at us. Hurray. So a few phone calls later and I fear I may have just thrown my landlords under the bus. Since they got a check from the insurance company, but we've made repairs, the collection agency just informed me that, "Collecting twice on an insurance claim is illegal. Can I have that information again?" Whoops! I had a hard time explaining "it's not like that! Umm, hold on, let me check on some information and we'll be back in touch." Man, do I hope I didn't just get my landlords arrested for insurance fraud after they've been so cool.
Of course on the other hand, since we just emptied our savings account paying for materials and a contractor, and Xtian has spent every second of free time working his ass off, I really don't want to shell out $7,000 for repairs that WE ALREADY PAID FOR! Nor am I thrilled that a collection agency is involved since all it can do is fuck up my credit. Gah.
But, anyhow, the repairs are almost done. All that's left are a few layers of paint and I get my husband back! Hurray! I've missed the guy.
Meanwhile, the clowns at my work have succeeded in getting our schedules changed. For now it's only half an hours difference, which isn't that bad, I suppose. But, because it's all later in the day, it adds about 15 minutes each way to my commute, robbing me of another 30 minutes with my kid. You know, it's bad enough that I only get 4 waking hours with Warren, with moving my workday back, that takes another 30 minutes away, and the extra commute takes another 30 minutes. Giving me a grand total of 3 hours a day with my sweet baby. It makes me want to shake the shit out of everyone I work for. I'm really hoping my VP will tell us who these complainers are so I can sit down with them and ask, "How is my schedule your business? How do my work hours affect your ability to do your job? How does keeping me from my family help you in any way?" GOD!
This is the first time I've really started getting upset about the lack of time I get with Warren. It doesn't help that he's in this really great smiling phase. He spends all his time smiling and giggling at me, making awesome sounds and just generally being a delight. He has a hard time making himself eat these days, because he'd rather be smiling at me and singing. And these petty fuckers are so bored in their own lives they just gotta fuck with mine.
Lest you think I'm overreacting, allow me to list some other things people have complained about regarding me or someone in my department:
That's just what's happened since I returned from maternity leave, 4 weeks ago. Does this happen other places? Are people everywhere this insane? I mean, I've worked for a cocaine addicted, bi polar asshole, and I've gotta tell you, this is worse. At least with the asshole, you knew who the enemy was. Here, it's everyone, even people you wouldn't suspect.
In other news, I get to see my brother this weekend. Hurray! Also: holy shit my baby brother is turning 22 years old. *sigh* Dude, all my siblings are adults. When did this happen?

- washing out pump supplies in the kitchen
- an office door being closed
- an office's lights being a little dimmed
- not wearing socks with loafers
- not putting a phone on the Do Not Disturb setting
- emailing a group email list rather than each member of the list explicitly
- referring to a coworker by their initials (and no, those initials aren't anything awkward like BM)

Whatever and ever.
So, here we are. It’s Friday. About freakin’ time, is all I have to say about it. Since Monday is a holiday at my work, all of the coworkers I like have taken today off. I knew today was going to be boring, but wasn’t aware that my first order of business when arriving would be to BECOME COMPLETELY INFURIATED!
I can’t go into too many details, but there’s an issue with an employee I supervise, who is bored, agitated, and half of his job responsibilities have gone away. He’s not able to do other kinds of work, so after weeks/months of finding tasks to take up his time, we’d determined that updating his job description was in order. This did include a 5-hour/week change in his scheduled hours. Still, we were within all legal/contractual bounds.
A meeting was scheduled to finalize this and some other issues. And I walked in this morning to an email from my VP completely reneging on every change we’d agreed to. I mean, I knew she didn’t have a spine, and frankly, I was surprised at how far this was allowed to go. But, it’s still irritating to have her turn tail and run.
So, it’s official, every single time I’ve attempted to make a change to any aspect of this organization (from a letterhead design, to attempting a cooperative maternity leave plan) I’ve been shut down. Complete fucking waste of energy. So, I’m out. I no longer will try. I will fill my chair like a good houseplant, and do only the bare minimum expected from me. God, I love feeling absolutely useless!
In other news, this weekend is the baby shower! I’m so looking forward to my home being overrun with family and friends, giggling and being silly like we do. Then Xtian’s heading out of town, and my mama will be staying with me. Hurray for Mama Time!
My big girl kitty is a mess these days, so I finally made a vet appointment for her. She has nasty skin sores that I thought were just from overgrooming. Then I thought they were a reaction to something. But, they are getting worse, and she’s getting anti-social and hiding under the bed for most of the days. So, clearly, after making the appointment, I had to get myself all worked up convinced that the vet was going to put my kitty to sleep. Or, even worse, tell me that the treatment to fix her is going to cost $5,000 or we could just put her down, and leave me with that decision. Which would probably kill me.
She’s not that old, she’s only 5! Wah!
But then this morning, I’m back to “it’s nothing, and the vet is going to tell me she’s just a neurotic nutbag.” Who the hell knows?
Right, time to heat up my bagel and avoid my coworkers!

Grumbling Makes the Day Fly By
Still alive. For now. I’m on a record Day Eight of the Migraine that Never Ends! Luckily, I have narcotics. Not so luckily, they make me feel pretty high, so I really shouldn’t be driving or anything while on them. And I’m also almost out. This presents a problem. Can this shit just STOP?
In other news, I’m currently carrying a monstrously large child. We’re measuring a full 2-4 weeks ahead of schedule, leading me to hope this kid will indeed make a nice early appearance. And since, by my calculations, we’re in week 36, I’m ready for this kid….today. Although, ideally we can wait until after this weekend’s baby shower. You know, since I have no clothing for this kid yet. I hear babies wearing nothing but diapers for the first year of life are highly frowned upon. Not sure why, I figure it just makes nibbling on chubby baby appendages easier. Mmmm, chubby baby toes!
I saw my pregnant aunt over the weekend, and can I just say, thank the lord I feel as good as I do. She gained a ton of weight and is now so bloated and uncomfortable she has trouble walking around. At least I can still touch my toes, for now. She’s about 4 weeks ahead of me, but she’s been off work for over a month already, since she’s been so uncomfortable. That poor lady. I’m so glad that I’ve apparently inherited my mother’s pregnancy genetics.
All I’m doing for the next two and half weeks at work is prepping my boss to do all my normal tasks. He’s not thrilled about learning how to do these things. Oh, and did I mention that I had my meeting with my VP about my maternity leave? Because I did. And just as I expected, I got a big FUCK YOU from them. So, I get only the twelve weeks required by law, with no options in working from home when I return. Thanks guys! That’s awesome!
I no longer feel any guilt at all for job-hunting while on leave. Ideally, I’ll never have to show up here again. Wouldn’t that be heavenly?

If it's not one thing, it's another thing.
I slept like a baby on Tuesday night. I woke up at 8, then stayed in bed reading for a couple of hours. Just fabulous. Of course, then I went to the gym, rearranged all the bedroom furniture and generally did chores the rest of the day. Not as restful as I’d hoped, but productive. I was in bed by 7, and falling asleep by 8.
Unfortunately, Xtian cleaned the carpets Wednesday evening. Well, that’s not unfortunate, that’s awesome. The unfortunate part is that the portion of the house we usually lock the cats in for the night was all wet, so we had to keep them in the kitchen. The kitchen that shares a door to our bedroom. My little girl kitty, Maggie, spent the entire night howling at the door. I know it was the entire night because I watched every single minute tick by, until I gave up at 3:45 am and just got up. Needless to say (but I will) I’m fucking tired and cranky. What does a bitch have to do to catch a break around here?
And like a retard, I’ve been completely overdoing the last few days. At the gym I’m pushing myself into pre-pregnancy workout routines. At home, I’m demanding that I can do it! Whatever it is, regardless of the fact that I shouldn’t do it. At work, I’m refusing help, even though I need it. What is wrong with me? I know I’m not supposed to be lifting 5-gallon jugs of water. I know I’m not supposed to move furniture. I know I’m not supposed to do any of these things. But I do them. And then I feel horrible, achy and contraction-y all day. Am I trying to go into premature labor? Or am I just too contrary to follow rules? Or am I just kind of dim?
So, it has officially been two months since I submitted my maternity leave proposal to my VP. 6 weeks ago, I was told that the CEO was reviewing it and I’d have an answer the following day.
That is the last I’ve heard. Just stunning. I know the usual protocol around here is to ignore things until they go away, but I don’t think that will work so well in this circumstance. What the hell, people? I’ve got plans to make, childcare to arrange and a lot of “before you go” preparation to complete. Perhaps I could find out what the benefits are? Or, how I’m going to pay rent while on maternity leave? Maybe?
I have visions of being on the phone with the VP while in labor trying to figure out if I’m okayed to not come in. Although, I’m pretty sure amniotic fluid stains on the carpets might go a long way to changing their policies. Hmmmm.

Oh dear lord.
Really? Is this really what people are getting all bent out of shape about?
Dude, high school seniors made a sly reference to drinking in their senior t shirts. Frankly, I find it hilarious and clever. I get that some bitchy mom with too much sand in her vagina would get all in a tizzy about it, but who are these students "protesting" the shirt? Do they really have no sense of humor, or are they just bitter because no one invited them to parties? You be the judge!
